About Emala Cottage

Emala Cottage is a three generation family collective, begun by Yorkshire native, Anne Nagy. Our works are knit, crocheted, sewn, or woven by both Anne and her granddaughter, Emily.

Our products are made with wool, cotton, and acrylic fibers depending on the item, as each fiber has their own merits. All of the wool we use is additionally hand-spun and hand-dyed by Anne, and is sourced locally from farms located in Duchess County, NY.

"Emala" is the Yorkshire nickname for "Emily," which is a family name.

A Bit About Anne

Anne is a weaver, spinner, knitter, and the founder of Emala Cottage. She spins Angora wool and is fond of experimenting with her weaving and knitting Pixie Hoods, a pattern of her own design.

Anne moved to the States at the age of 17 from Leeds, England, where she had been working in the Leeds wool mills. She is currently living in New York.

Emala Cottage was named for Anne's mother, Emily--the Yorkshire nickname for which is "Emala." Though for two weeks, once, she claimed to be 'retired,' Anne just can't stop knitting.
